Its always a joy to return to this beautiful estate. The Priory, still very much a family home, is owned by the Wombwells who trace their ancestry back to a relation of Thomas Cromwell. Cromwell’s remains are in a huge vault at the Priory and visitors may see it if they go on a visit inside this lovely old building.
The plant fair spreads itself all along the lawns overlooking the lake (and far away, the White Horse of Kilburn) curling around onto the gravel outside the Priory ruins and then towards the front door and the all important entrance to the Refectory Cafe!
The April and August fairs are filling up, even now in November, and I’m quite sue I shall have a wonderful selection of brilliant plant nurseries attending by the time April comes around again. Don’t forget to bring lots of cash along with you or a cheque book! Most of the nurseries are small individual growers so don’t have high-tech payment methods.
With a huge selection of quality plants on sale, 40 acres of grounds, gardens, water gardens and a hidden Walled garden, home made teas and a warm welcome, what more could you wish for on a Spring Sunday morning?
